Burgundy 2006: Domaine Marquis d'Angerville
The Chateau of the Marquis is the most imposing in the village of Volnay. It’s grand entrance is just above the church and the cellars are phenomenal in size. Far too big, in fact, to house the small production from the three 1er Cru vineyards. The late Marquis refused to jump on the new oak band wagon, probably the result of his respect for tradition, rather than a positive oenological decision. This works very well in the greatest vintages where the fruit can express itself in the years to follow. His son, Guillaume and son in law, Renaud de Villette continue the tradition, though one or two new barrels have crept into the cellar.

Some fairly aggressive tannins are matched by delicate, but sweet fruits. Wonderful harmony and will age very gracefully indeed. Lovely. 2017 to 2028.
