Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 1993, Bonneau de Martray (6)

The Producer

The relatively humble house at the top of the village camouflages extensive cellars, perhaps the most complete of any private domaine in the region. From this winery comes one of the world’s greatest white wines, Corton Charlemagne. Carefully sorted fruit is crushed and fermented in cask (a little more than one third new barrels) and aged for a further 20 months. From such an excellent vintage the fruit character is verging on tropical; nectarines and pineapple. This is balanced by a wonderful structure of fresh, citrus acidity and an element of mineral and body emanating from the terroir, the taste of white Burgundy’s promised land.

The Wine

Superb depth and complexity on this wine. The lemon and lime fruits are so fresh and youthful and are balanced by tantalizing acids and sweet lemon, honey and white peach fruits. Plenty of smokey nutty aromas and stoney minerality. Drinking beautifully now until 2015.

Single Bottle: £85.00
In a case of 12: £80.75
