Hamilton Russell Chardonnay 2006, Walker Bay (6)
The Producer
Hamilton Russell vineyards, one of the most southerly in South Africa, are in the Walker Baydistrict behind the old fishing village of Hermanus.
Founder Tim Hamilton Russell searched for 10 years to find the ideal terroir to produce South Africa’s best cool climate wines. The distinguished oak aged wines combine old world elegance and longevity with new world, forward fruit and they offer a unique expression of the personality of the vineyard in which they were made.
The Wine
In the 2007 John Platter South African wine guide, the 2005 HR Chardonnay features as one of the 25 Five Star rated wines - or "Outstanding, A world Classic". The 2004 was voted the best white wine in South Africa and the 2005 follows in the same vein. The 2006 has already been lauded with prizes in the US and South Africa.
Plenty of concentrated lemon and lime fruit with a chalky mineral underlay and fresh mineral stone fruits, that are broad and expressive. Wonderful expression in the Burgundian mould of Chardonnay. One of the true terroir wines from South Africa.
Single Bottle: £20.95
In a case of 12: £19.90
