Val di Toro 2006, Maremma IGT (6)

The first vintage from this new property in Tuscany that lies directly between Grossetto and Scansano. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Montepulciano, the team of Anna Maria Cruciata and husband Hugh Constable Maxwell have crafted a wine that exhibits crunchy red cherry fruit, layers of peppery spice and a primary fruited creamy tannin texture. Young and primary at the moment, but if the attention to detail on this first vintage is anything to go by, the future should be bright for this little Tuscan estate. Made with the help of a consulting winemaker, the wines were aged in second fill French barrique barrels from the Gaja estate.
