Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2000 Tokaji Oremus, Hungary (50cl Bottle) (6)
The Producer
The Oremus vineyard was the site of the first Tokaji to be made in 1650. The vineyard and cellars are now owned by Bodegas Oremus, a company set up by Bodegas Vega Sicilia in 1993 to takeadvantage of the break up of the Hungarian state monopoly.
Botryitis grapes are picked into wooden back packs caled puttonyos. The juice of 6 puttonyos fills a small barrel and yields the sweetest of the Aszú (nobly rotten grape) wines. The lesser the number the greater proportion of Szamorodni, or dry white.
Essenzia is yet richer, made form the free run juice at the bottom of each puttonyo and the receiving vats.
The Wine
Luscious, honey suckle, caramelised pineapples and sweet citrus make a delicious dessert wine that can be drunk now or aged for a decade or more. There are beautiful acids to balance the 5 Putts of sugar sweeetness and incredible dried fruit complexity. One of the finest Tokajis on the market.
Single Bottle: £41.95
In a case of 12: £39.85
