Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru sous Fretille 2006, Domaine Jean Jacques GirardThe ProducerIn 1998 Jean-Jacques Girard became independent from his brother. He and his wife Agnes manage the few hectares in Savigny and Pernand Vergelesses with great care. The most striking thing to note on these wines is the concentration and firmness, without being too harsh in bitterness or tannins. Great balance, with some potential longevity, has been achieved at a very modest price.The WineLike many of his neighbours, Jean-Jacques has been adding to his portfolio of appellations. The Fretille is a marked contrast to his special cuvee, 'Belles Filles' as it shows a little more power and a certainly more definition. We begin with the characteristic white flower, melon and citrus zest but, by the finish, there are honey and heavy mineral, even oily notes. 2009 to 2013
