Riesling Heimbourg 2005, Zind-Humbrecht (6)

The nose is dominated by strong minerality and has well defined notes of yellow fruits and citrus fruits. On the palate the wine has excellent concentration of fruit underpinned with a classic Riesling acidity. A firmly structured wine that can be drunk now or cellared for 10 years. The 2005 Riesling Heimbourg displays a lovely and unusual sense of generous ripeness even though it has barely over 12% alcohol, and its eleven grams of residual sugar can scarcely be detected. Some fermentative aromas still cling to the glass, but grapefruit, peppermint, vanilla, and brown-spiced plum emerge and follow the juicy, succulent course of this delightful Riesling into a lip-smacking yet chalk-, mineral-drenched, and white pepper-tinged finish. There is a superficial resemblance to Gruner Veltliner in the meld of nutmeg and white pepper on display here, and this refined, generous Riesling should be a delight for at least 5-7 years. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Score 91/100
