Bodegas Jimenez Landi Pielago 2006, Toledo (6)From the small DO of Mentrida situated south of Madrid near Toledo, comes an amazing red wine from a small boutique producer. The 2006 Pielago is 60% Merlot and 40% Syrah aged in 300 and 500-liter new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up aromas of pain grille, game, bacon, blueberry, and black currants. Supple-textured, intense, layered, and meaty, this full-throttle effort has superb concentration and a 60-second finish.
