Sancerre les Tuilieres 2007, Michel Redde et Fils
The Producer
Originally a vineyard owned by monks, La Moynerie has been handed down from father to son for eight generations. Thierry Redde is continuing the family tradition, producing wines with authentic regional typicity. Indeed, wonderful wines are now being made, with the help of son Sebastiaan, from grapes grown on Silex soils, made famous by Didier Dageneau, who is related to the family. The range of wines from the Petit Fume through to the old vine Taille Pierre and the Single Vineyard old vine Cuvee Majorum, are some of the finest in the region. They are infact one of only two or three wineries with such old vines in such prime vineyard sites, making incredibly fine and complex Pouilly Fume wines from Sauvignon Blanc - wines that are capable of aging 10 or 15 plus years. A real star of a producer for lovers of benchmark, premium Pouilly Fume!
The Wine
This wine displays a gorgeous nose of lime, lemon grass, sherbet, honey, grapefruit, white peach, fennel, and a hint of Alsace Riesling-like mineralityl, as well as more chalky, Sancerre-typical minerality and brightness. Lush and rich on the palate - where peach and citrus are joined by honeydew melon - but clear and refined, this carries a billowing elegance into its creamy yet clear and refreshing finish.
