KORU Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Marlborough (6)

The Producer

October 2008 saw the arrival of Koru wines from Marlborough. These have been described by one NZ wine writer as 'Marlborough Grand Cru' . Tiny production from Jasper & Sally Raats, they have taken their previous experience from France, California and South Africa to Marlborough to produce truly unique wines. Only one hectare vineyard for each varietal with intense viticulture and impeccable winemaking produce stunning wines that will benefit from up to 10 years in the cellar . Allocations are unbelievably small with only 351 (6 pack) cases of the SB produced the allocation for the UK is 50 and 10 of the pinot.

The Wine

Sealed with natural cork. Made from a 1 hectare single vineyard by Jasper and Sarah Raats, this is an intense, concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with rich peach, pear and passion fruit character, together with a bit of grapefruit freshness. It's really intense and well balanced with ripeness and richness to the fore. It isn't grassy like so many Sauvignons, but tends to the more tropical end of the flavour spectrum, while still retaining freshness. This is certainly quite expensive, but it is one of the very best Kiwi Sauvignons out there. 93/100 www.wineanorak.com
