Bodegas Macia Batle Blanco 2007, Binissalem, Mallorca (6)

The Producer

The Macia Batle family has been producing wines since 1856, but their ancestors probably would have never imagined that the winery would become one of the leaders in the world of Mallorcan wine, nor that it would come to produce wine of such a high quality using autochthonous grape varieties. Macia Batle stands out because it has been able to take Mallorcan grapes such as Manto Negro, Callet and Premsal Blanc, and combine them with classic grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay to produce unique wines possessed of a very strong character, and above all else, of an extremely high quality.

The Wine

Macia Batle is situated in Binissalem, Spain's first off-shore DO on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. Most of the wines are destined for the Balearic holiday destinations. The dominant grape variety is the Manto Negro for red wines and Moll (also called Prensal Blanc) for whites. The Blanco is crisp, aromatic, richly fruited without being simple and retains wonderful freshness, minerality and elegance. One for the blind tastings!
