Cape Mentelle Sauvignon / Semillon 2008, Margaret River (6)

The Producer

As one of the pioneers of the Margaret River region on the south west point of Australia, David Hohnen has gained a tremendous reputation here at Cape Mentelle. The Cabernet was one of the first Australian wines to interest the international auction market. Located at the most westerly point of South-West Australia, the Margaret River Valley is famous for its fine wines and marvellous, fresh climate. The 80 hectare farm is divided into two sites, one south of the town, Margaret River and another between the town and Cape Mentelle.

The Wine

Margaret River's best known and most highly regarded vineyard has produced this Sémillon-Sauvignon blend, with its distinctly Bordeaux-like quality. The toasty flavour of the Sémillon combines with the fruity exuberance of the Sauvignon to produce a wine with intense aromas of passion fruit, lemon rind and a hint of spicy oak. The 2008 vintage is superb and at its best now - full bodied, clean and refreshing with a lengthy finish.
