Piper's Brook Chardonnay 2005, Tasmania (6)

The Producer

Piper’s Brook, at the north east tip of Tasmania is well known as Australia’s leading cool climate region. The weather conditions and soils are similar to those of Burgundy and Alsace, where co-founder and winemaker, Andrew Pirie gained much of his early experience. Beginning in 1974, the emphasis is on vineyard location and viticulture techniques. Indeed the rows of vines appear manicured and geometrically perfect. Fruit is harvested at night to give optimum juice temperature at crushing.

The Wine

Beautifully crafted cool climate Chardonnay that almost resembles the finest white Burgundies. This wine has extra depth and length and concentrated lemon and melon fruit flavours that are thoughtfully integrated with expensive oak. From the best old vine parcels, this wine is a real collectors wine. There are very few examples from down under that are in this quality league. Only 13.5 Abv make this a cool, zesty example that’s perfect for Xmas turkey!
