Sancerre Rose 2008, Domaine Michel Girard
The Producer
Terroir plays an important role at this estate, Michel Girard owns 19 hectares of vines planted in the three different soil structures of Sancerre. Terre Blances (clay and limestone), Caillottes (chalky limestone) and Silex (flint). Rather than produce a range, they favour judicious blending of the separately-vinified cuvées to create a delicious Sancerre they are proud to call “Domaine Girard”
The grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed, fermented at 18°C by indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats - all to preserve natural aromas, elegance and complexity. The final blend brings together these different elements and flavours to create a balanced whole wine.
The Wine
Produced from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, this wine has a most delicate salmon pink colour and is packed full of elegant fresh red fruits nuances, and dried red and black fruit flavours. It has a hint of berry perfme, wild undergrowth and a satisfying, crisp, clean, mineral laden finish. Finding a quality Sancerre Rose at an affordable price is quite difficult these days. But this is certainly one to try!
