Dönnhoff is a legendary name to fans of German wine, and is recognized by many to be the best estate in the Nahe region. Helmut Dönnhoff has been making the wine here since 1971 and has continued to add parcels of vines from top sites to the estate’s vineyards. He’s a traditionalist, and vinifies his wines in large oak casks.

The Wine

Donnhoff’s generically labeled Riesling QbA 2008 Dry delivers as usual . Smelling of lemon verbena with a hint of resin, it comes to the palate with a wax-like texture that puts one in mind of summer squashes, a lemony brightness, and wet stone underpinnings. There is enough glycerin to smooth the acids out and inhibit the quite penetrating, focused finish. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years.
