Graham Quinta dos Malvedos 1998, Port (6)
The Producer
Bought by the Symington family in 1970, Graham is said to have been fouded in 1820, following payment of an outstanding debt in pipes of port. The bulky and chewy wines are largely the product of some of the best qintas on the Douro, to the east of Tua.
The Symingtons are advocates of many modern techniques, especially autovinification, which leaves the grape treaders redundant. But there remains great passion for the ports, which remain in the premier league.
The Wine
Typically sweet, plump, fleshy, and fat, the opaque purple-colored 1998 Malvedos Vintage Port reveals copious aromas of flowers, licorice, and black fruits, gorgeously-seductive, voluptuously-textured flavors, light tannin, and a long, spicy finish. It should drink well in 2-3 years and last for up to 20.
