Quinta da Murta Touriga Nacional / Syrah 2007, Estremadura (6)

The Producer

The white wines of Bucelos enjoy a long and notable pedigree, popularised in England by both the Duke of Wellington and Shakespeare ( in Henry IV ). The Bucelos area is just north of Lisbon geographically and Murta has 14 hectares of vineyards in a well exposed south- facing bowl, making less than 4000 cases each year. Excellent soil conditions, vine location and microclimate combine to produce a balanced citrine-coloured wine with a fruity aroma. An ideal accompaniment to fish or seafood.

The Wine

A well made and lucious blend of Touriga Nacional, Portugal's premium varietal, and savoury Syrah. This wine is dark, spicy and savoury with plenty of black fruit and cherry notes. The palate is ripe and soft but framed by wonderful acidity and minerality. A great all rounder that will complement roast pork belly or lamb chops superbly. At only 13 degrees Abv, this one wont blow your head off after a few glasses.
