Mendel Wines Malbec 2007, Mendoza

The Producer

Mendel Winery is the union of Roberto De la Mota - one of Argentin'a most repected and experienced wine makers and that of a nearly century old vineyard. The result is the objective to produce wines of great quality that express old vineyard characters as well as those of the native soils of Mendoza. The 80 year old Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are located bwtween 900-1100 meters in the Lujan de Cuyo region. This coupled with the low nutrient rocky soils and the long ripening period produces grapes of high concentration and intensity.

The Wine

Mendel’s 2007 Malbec was sourced from a 45-acre parcel of 80-year-old vines in Lujan de Cuyo and aged for 12 months in French oak. Purple-colored, it displays an alluring bouquet of cedar, spice box, violets, and black cherry. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it has plenty of savory fruit, cinnamon and allspice notes, excellent depth and concentration, and a fruit-filled finish. This stylish effort will evolve for 2-3 years and deliver prime drinking from 2011 to 2019. 90/100 RP
