Mendel Winery is the union of Roberto De la Mota - one of Argentin'a most repected and experienced wine makers and that of a nearly century old vineyard. The result is the objective to produce wines of great quality that express old vineyard characters as well as those of the native soils of Mendoza. The 80 year old Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are located bwtween 900-1100 meters in the Lujan de Cuyo region. This coupled with the low nutrient rocky soils and the long ripening period produces grapes of high concentration and intensity.

The Wine

The 2006 Finca Remota is 100% Malbec sourced from a newly acquired, 60 year old, ungrafted vineyard. It received the “200% new oak” treatment, spending its first 12 months in 100% new Taransaud barrels before racking to a new set of 100% new Taransaud barrels for another six months. Opaque purple/black in color, it delivers a superb aromatic array of pain grille, mineral, violets, black cherry, and blueberry. Surprisingly light on its feet for its size, with the oak nicely integrated, it has layers of flavor, terrific depth and concentration, serious aging potential, and a 60-second finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2026. 94/100 RP
