Handford Wines

Taltarni was established in 1968 after a three year, world-wide search by the French brothers Dominique d Bernard Portet. Their ambition was to find ideal sites for producing French style wines, outside France. High altitude and southerly latitude give Moonambel a similar climate t Bordeaux. Taltarni is the Aboriginal word for ‘Red Earth’, describing the local soil.

The Wine

Taché is the French word for stained. This is slightly pink as a result of a short maceration on the skins of the Pinot Noir grapes that form more than half the blend with Chardonnay. Fruit is now sourced from the Pyrenees of Victoria and the Piper's River region of Tasmania. Both are cool areas suitable for gentle development resulting in both delicacy and complexity.
