Gosset Grande Reserve NV (6)

The Producer

Founded in Aÿ in 1584. Pierre Gosset was the first recorded seller of Champagne, a fact that gives rise to claims that this is the oldest Champagne house. However old, the quality is outstanding. We have been lucky enough to taste a range of base wines and can assure you that the quality of Gosset’s top Chardonnay is supreme. Indeed Grande Réserve is one of the best premium wines in the region.

The Wine

The Grande Réserve is produced along the same lines as Krug's Grande Cuvee being a multi-vintage blend as opposed to a non-vintage blend. It is assembled from reserve wines of the last 3 great vintages. Base wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation so the end result is both fresh and age -worthy. Wines are aged for a minimum of 4 years in Gosset's cellars in Ay until considered ready for release. This is often the ringer placed in prestige Champagne blind tastings, and usually wins the highest score, giving the likes of Krug, Cristal and Dom Perignon a real run for their money. 'Showing rare depth and character for a non-vintage bubbly, this is a full-bodied, mature-flavoured, subtly complex Champagne. Has the signature toast, brioch and walnut aromas, a smooth, expansive mousse, mellow fruit flavours and a luxurious, lingering finish. 93+/100' Wine Spectator.
