Handford Wines

The house of Adriano Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 and acquired recently by Champagne Louis Roederer. They now own four quintas which provide all their fruit. An unswerving dedication to improving quality has resulted in successive promotion towards the top echelons of the Oporto trade. The 1983 and 1994 vintages are outstanding as is the vintage character wine, Quinta da Urtiga.

The Wine

Quinta da Evamoira is Ramos Pinto's newest estate situated almost on the Portuguese border with Spain. The land nearly fell victim to damming of the beautiful river Coa which borders it's property but miraculously neolithic remains were found here and a small museum exhibits some finds on the property. This is a magnificent spot reached by four wheel drive through some rugged country. A classic tawny this has lovely soft toffee fruit and a good finish, if only they could bottle the tranquil view as well ! " Good rich colour and a hint of caramel on the nose.
