Corton 1997, Chandon de Briailles

The Producer

This is the new grower to the list. The Comte and Comtesse de Nicolay have come to the fore in recent years by producing Cortons to match the best. The quality factor here is a reliance on natural acidity and mineral notes of the terrain to balance oak ageing. I have rarely tasted wine with such perfect structure; rich, but not overbearing fruit meet tannins and natural acid to yield lengthy and very pleasing wines. There is a range of Cortons but, true to my tasting notes, I have only selected the most expensive. The patient will be rewarded

The Wine

Offers some citrus and tropical fruit on the nose but very tightly knit in the mouth. It's like a coiled spring, ready to unload bags of energetic, spritely fruit and spritzy acids. Hints of vanilla, cinammon and brioche. Needs 3 years to grow into a classic.

Single Bottle: £49.95
In a case of 12: £47.45
