Handford Wines

The house of Adriano Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 and acquired recently by Champagne Louis Roederer. They now own four quintas which provide all their fruit. An unswerving dedication to improving quality has resulted in successive promotion towards the top echelons of the Oporto trade. The 1983 and 1994 vintages are outstanding as is the vintage character wine, Quinta da Urtiga.

The Wine

Perhaps one of the most beautiful Quintas in the Douro I stayed here in the Autumn of 1999 and was swept away by its tranquility and the magnificent setting of the property . The port was outstanding to, and for me remains the benchmark of old tawnies. "Mature and delicate with toasted almonds and dried apricots on the nose and palate". 92+/100 Wine Magazine
