Chateau Rieussec Fargues 2001

96.5% Semillon and 3.5% Sauvignon. There were 5 pickings between mid September and 25th October. Bright golden and ripe on the nose that is not dominated by botrytis but by fresh, stone fruits and a tiny touch of nutty oak and honey. The force of oily apricot and exotic fruit on the palate is magnificent and there is a perfect balance of fresh acid. This is not marked by the wood and persists for a minute or more. This has by no means the highest of sugar levels in 2001 but is beautifully crafted and appears sweet enough to me! Rieussec is surely one of the top wines of 2001, reds included, and will be highly sought after. 2008 to 2035. A monumental effort, the 2001 Rieussec boasts a light to medium gold color in addition to a fabulous perfume of honeysuckle, smoky oak, caramelized tropical fruits, creme brulee, and Grand Marnier. The wine is massive and full-bodied yet neither over the top nor heavy because of good acidity. With intense botrytis as well as a 70-75-second finish, this amazing Sauternes will be its apogee between 2010-2035. Parker 99/100
