Chateau Pontet Canet 2003, Pauillac

60% Cabernet Sauvignons, 5% Cabernet Francs, 33% Merlots and 2% Petit Verdot The most important feature of this château is the outcrops of gravelly soil, some of which are nearly 30 metres above sea-level. It is these parts of the vineyard that give the property its extraordinary potential. Slightly opaque, soft red, closed on the nose, showing just a little toasted oak. They seem to have gone for delicacy here and so the light, floral fruit style is in the shadow of some solid acids and tannins that typify the property. I suspect this may be under rated but prove a canny buy. 9 to 13 years.

Single Bottle: £49.95
In a case of 12: £47.45
