Otto Rettenmeier has gradually increased the Cabernet Franc plantings here and invested in clever winery tools to extract fresh flavours without bitterness. It seems to have paid off in 2004 as this offers a lovely red, opaque colour and delicate and charming, floral and red fruit nose with a touch of pencil shavings. There is forward, velvet textured, floral, Cabernet Franc fruit of some richness. Soft, supple tannins and zingy acidity. A gentle and charming giant of a wine. I may be biased here as I love good Cabernet Franc and this chateau is bang opposite Cheval Blanc and the wine was almost as good. 2010 to 2017.
