Volnay 2004, Michel Lafarge
The Producer
In recent years, Michel Lafarge’s reds have become the most sought after in the Côtes de Beaune. He is a committed and studious man who appears to have arrived at a near perfect formula. Of his 8 hectares, only one is of 1er Cru standing, but their fruit combines delicious Pinot flavours with layers of firm mineral character and delicate vanilla from a shortish oak ageing. I have noted consistent depth, complexity and perfect balance across the range. Although Michel is very much hands on, the domaine is now run by his son Frédéric.
The Wine
Beautiful colour here; star bright purple/mauve with just a little flesh to its appearance. Crisp, red apple bite, supple tannins, mouth watering red cherry and apple of real quality. Long, cool finish. This Volnay gives a good lift, so a good pick me up and great to get the dinner buzzing. 2007 to 2011.
Single Bottle: £24.99
In a case of 12: £23.74
