Handford Wines

Joel Levi has brought an extra dimension to working with the often dull and over-acidic Chenin Blanc. First, the fruit is grown on the most suitable, deep tufa (soft chalk) soil to the south of Saumur. Secondly, yields are restricted by heavy pruning to the critical point at which ripe fruit and regional character dominate rather than hibernate in the wines. Third, the harvest is by hand and only quality fruit is hand sorted for these wines.

The Wine

Clear, pale lemon in colour. In the glass there is a feel of weight and concentration. Indeed the ripeness of the vintage is manifest in the haunting depth and almost exotic nature of the red apple fruit and honeyed finish. Deliciously different.
