I have a special affection for Fonseca: it is a port of outstanding quality and finesse. It seems to show more complexity than most others. This is due to both the variety of vineyard sites and the skill, dedication and experience of one of the trade greatest characters, Bruce Guimaraens. Bruce has recently passed most responsibilities on to his son, David, but I am sure that there are timely interjections at key moments. Recent vintages have been outstanding. The greatness of 1977, 1992 and 1994 is well documented. I adore the 1985 and find the second string, Fonseca Guimaraens, to be of exceptional quality.
