Smith Woodhouse 1985, Port
The Producer
Founded in 1784 by Londoner, Christopher Smith, Lord Mayor of London and bought by Graham in 1970. Both were immediately acquired by the Symington group which has tuned Smith Woodhouse into a different animal altogether. Much of the wine comes from Quinta do Vale Dona Maria, in the Rio Torto area. Grapes are still trodden in lagares.
The wines are solid, forthright and quite powerful. Recent vintages have proved exceptional value (1977, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1991 and 1994)
The Wine
A classic vintage with concentrated, rich and potent wines. "Smith Woodhouse 1985 is still full of life and has masses of ripe berries and fruit confit" as a French Judge recently described the wine. "It is stunningly complex and has huge length." Wine International Magazine. Excellent value for a drinking port.
Single Bottle: £55.00
In a case of 12: £52.25
