Corton Charlemagne 2005, Domaine Jean Jacques Girard

The Producer

In 1998 Jean-Jacques Girard became independent from his brother. He and his wife Agnes manage the few hectares in Savigny and Pernand Vergelesses with great care. The most striking thing to note on these wines is the concentration and firmness, without being too harsh in bitterness or tannins. Great balance, with some potential longevity, has been achieved at a very modest price.

The Wine

A new one to this list, the Corton shows great depth and ripeness. Perhaps not typical of Corton there is stone fruit and a juicy feel to match the chalky, citrus acidity. Given the lush style and the quality of the vintage this will drink well from soon after bottling through to 2016. See if you can resist!

Single Bottle: £49.99
In a case of 12: £47.49
