Pouilly Fume Cuvee Majorum 2002, Michel Redde et Fils

The Producer

Originally a vineyard owned by monks, La Moynerie has been handed down from father to son for eight generations. Thierry Redde is continuing the family tradition, producing wines with authentic regional typicity. Indeed, wonderful wines are now being made, with the help of young son Sebastiaan, from grapes grown on Silex soils, made famous by Didier Dageneau, who is related to the family. The range of wines from the Petit Fume through to the old vine Taille Pierre and the Single Vineyard old vine Cuvee Majorum, are some of the finest in the region. They are infact one of only two or three wineries with such old vines in such prime vineyard sites, making incredibly fine and complex Pouilly Fume wines from Sauvignon Blanc - wines that are capable of aging 10 or 15 plus years. A real star of a producer for lovers of benchmark, premium Pouilly Fume!

The Wine

Some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines in Pouilly Fume belong to the Redde family. Cuvee Marjorum 2002 comes from a classic Loire vintage that’s regarded as one of the best of the decade. This wine displays incredible intensity along with fine elegance. The extra bottle age reveals a very complex wine finely balancing gooseberry and flinty flavours with intense limey fruits and grassy mineral undertones. A wine with few equals in the Loire.
