Sancerre Rose 2005, Michel Redde et Fils
The Producer
Originally a vineyard owned by monks, La Moynerie has been handed down from father to son for eight generations. Thierry Redde is continuing the family tradition, producing wines with authentic regional typicity. Indeed, wonderful wines are now being made, with the help of young son Sebastiaan, from grapes grown on Silex soils, made famous by Didier Dageneau, who is related to the family. The range of wines from the Petit Fume through to the old vine Taille Pierre and the Single Vineyard old vine Cuvee Majorum, are some of the finest in the region. They are infact one of only two or three wineries with such old vines in such prime vineyard sites, making incredibly fine and complex Pouilly Fume wines from Sauvignon Blanc - wines that are capable of aging 10 or 15 plus years. A real star of a producer for lovers of benchmark, premium Pouilly Fume!
The Wine
We have enjoyed the super Pouilly Fume wines from this producer for some time and are now pleased to be offering the Sancerre from the other side of the river. An exceptional wine with bags of predigree, this one never fails to deliver on the crisp, fresh, strawberry, mineral notes that typify high quality Sancerre Rose. The 2005 vintage was one of the best, certainly since the taught and characterful 2002's and offers plenty of dry extract, fragrance and mineral elegance on the finish. Perfect for all occasions.
