Handford Wines

This bodega is impressive. It is ultra-modern and produces wines of only the very highest quality from Tempranillo grapes grown on their 60 hectare estate. Production is limited and used exclusively for red Reserva wines. The technical advisor is Bordeaux expert Michel Rolland. After gentle pressing and fermentation wines are transferred in to new barrels, without filtration and aged for 15 months. The wine are kept for two further years in bottle to develop complexity and aromatic qualities.

The Wine

One of the great 'tres Marqueses' of the Rioja Alvesa. Shining bright and still translucent, black-red. The nose of brambles, vanilla ice-cream, a bundle of wild berries, even sloe and juniper are just some of the sensations that come to the nose. Great complexity from the greatest recent vintage in the area. Delicious now but continues to mature well over 2 decades.
