Conde de San Cristobal 2004, Ribera del DueroThe ProducerOriginally called Pago de Valdestremero thei estate was purchased by Grupo Vinicole Marques de Vargas in 2000. It enjoyed a reputation for achieving perfect ripeness levels in the grapes. The Winery is situated close to Penafiel in the heart of Ribera del Duero and lies hidden at the top of a valley. New vines have been planted and a state of the art winery built. Grapes are picked manually and ageing is in the interesting of combination of American Missouri oak, Caucasian and French oak. This is the third venture from the owners and looks to be another success.The WineWhat a great effort from the owners of one of our favourite producers The Marques de Vargas in Rioja. A blend of 80% Tinta Fina, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Aged in a combination of American, French and Russian oak it is fine and elegant with velvety soft tannins and dense blackberry fruit on the palate with a lovely lingering after taste.
