Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2004, Walker Bay (6)

The Producer

Pinot Noir in many respects has been regarded as a side show in South Africa. For Peter Finlayson, by contrast, it's an enduring passion and a personal crusade that he's pursued with vigour and brio for more than two decades, latterley on his immaculate domaine in the hemel-en-Aarde Valley. While a family trust under Stanley and Bea Tollman has taken ownership of the property, shareholder Finlayson remains the winemaker and driving force behind the classical wines. Bouchard Finlayson offers cool climate terroir driven wines that reflect the vineyards they are grown in and the vintage variables that have shaped the structure of the wines, in many ways not unlike Peter's role models of Burgundy. These are wines that carry an aura of grandeur, elegance and finesse. A world class range.

The Wine

The wine that has been evolving! Another unique blend which incorporates Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Pinot noir. A fusion of French and Italian, by an African! Hence the parallel with the legendary General Hannibal who marched his army over the French Alps, using African Elephants. The wine was originally launched in December 2002 to a phenomenal wine trade and consumer reception.
