Bourgogne Cote d'Auxerre 2005, Simonnet-FebvreSensational value for money red Burgundy. A wine full of lovely plum and strawberry fruits with a lofty fragrance. This comes from vineyards just South of Chablis in a small but increasingly interesting area for red Pinot Noir grapes - The Cote d'Auxerre. The amazing 2005 vintage in this northerly region yielded classical dark flavoured fruit quality with plenty of spicy ripe foresty flavours, complex chalky minerality and balancing zesty acidity. Despite the modest price, this is no frivilous wine.
