Welcome to Handford's new-season of tasting, dinners and wine school. Our events are limited in size, and are offered on a first come, first served basis, so it is always advisable to book early. When you have chosen the events you wish to attend, call us on +44 20 7589 6113 to book your place/s. A confirmation ticket will be sent out approximately two weeks before the tasting. We regret that if tickets are subsequently cancelled we will be unable to issue a refund unless the place is reallocated.

Handford Tasters - Beaujolais’s Greatest Vintage Tuesday 21st September. Starts 7.15pm Stand up tasting with Jack & Gavin In the next of our informal series Jack & Gavin present 2009 Beaujolais. It is a truly outstanding vintage heralded as the best in over 50 years and could well be the year that Beaujolais manages to make a break from the abomination that was Nouveau. And because it has been such an unfashionable region for such a long time the best wines are unbelievably good value. We will be showing 8 wines and, as always, we will be starting with something fizzy. £ 19.00

Bordeaux 2009 Monday 27th September Stand up tasting with James Handford MW A stellar vintage that has attracted huge demand. We will be showing a range of petits Chateaux and lesser Grand Cru Classes wines. Samples are prepared and sent the week before so we cannot publish an exact list. But you can be sure that this will give a wonderful insight into the wine business event of the 21st century; James will not only annotate the wines on show but also give candid insight and opinion on the sales campaign. 5 Decades of Chateau Calon-Segur 2004 to 1961 Thursday 7th October Sit down tasting with Bordeaux expert Richard Brazier When you mention the commune of St. Estephe, automatically the Chateaux of Cos D’Estournel and Montrose come to mind. Yet Calon Segur, though a 3rd growth, was producing particularly serious wine for the first half of the 20th Century and certainly in the last 20-25 has been in tremendous form. As with all the Chateaux we have looked at in the Five Decade series and in line with all top St. Estephes, ageing well is something that comes as second nature. Verticals of this estate are rare it should be fascinating. We shall be looking at vintages 2004, 2001, 2000, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1988, 1982, (one from the ‘70s.hopefully 1970) and the great vintage of 1961. £ 108.00

Gevrey-Chambertin Masterclass with James Handford Tuesday 12th October Sit down tasting with James Handford MW A stroll through some of Gevrey’s finest vineyards featuring our newest supplier, Frederic Esmonin; Ruchottes Chambertin 2009, 2007 and 2002; Estourelles St Jacques 2009; Gevrey Chambertin 2009 and Lavaux St Jacques 2007. Then there will be a selection of Grand Crus and 1er Crus from other growers such as Fourrier, Armand Rousseau, Dugat Py and Lignier. £ 75.00

Starts 7.15pm Informal stand-up tasting with Jack & Gavin While France has managed to export its main grape varieties around the world Italy has kept its treasures to itself. In this, our fifth Handford Taster, Jack & Gavin take an informal tour around some of Italy’s great regional grape varieties including Nebbiolo, Garganega, Verdicchio. We will be showing 8 wines and, as always, we will have a little Prosecco to start. £ 19.00

Vieux Chateau Certan from 2002 to 1982 Wednesday 3rd November February Sit down tasting with Bordeaux expert Richard Brazier Verticals of top Pomerol estates are rare enough and certainly for the much loved Vieux Chateau Certan. Only 3,500 cases of this Merlot dominated wine are produced and they are one of the commune’s biggest successes at that. This tasting represents good value when you consider the recent vintage has been selling for over £150 a bottle en primeur. We will be looking at some top vintages: 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1995, 1988, 1985, 1982. £ 110.00

The Wines of Saint-Cosme Tuesday 9th November Sit down tasting with James Handford MW One of four estates to own in the premium sites of the village and one of the oldest known sites of wine production in France. There remains a Roman fermentation vat and irrigation system. If not famous enough for his high quality, Louis Barruol joined the elite band of Parker 100 point scorers last year. We’ll be focussing on Gigondas (Gigondas 2006, 2007 and 2008, and ‘Valbelle’ 2005, 2006 and 2007) as well as showing a selection of others (to include Cotes du Rhone white, St Joseph 2007 and Chateauneuf 2007). Louis has promised to send a surprise or two to ice this already creamy gateau. £40

Chateaux Corbin and d’Issan Thursday 11th November Sit down tasting with Anabelle Cruse Bardinet and Marie Dussech Anabelle has made great strides at Corbin since taking over in Saint Emilion a decade ago. Her cousin, Emanuel, has a long family history of making premium Margaux reds at d’Issan and his colleague, Marie will be presenting. We will taste 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009 of each wine. £60.00
