Description
Absolutely delicious and right at its peak, the Victrix shows aromas of light lemon notes, backed with peach juice, apricot stone and orange blossom, all solidly backed by a reductive gun-flint core. The five years in the bottle are starting to pay out, with notes of brioche and hazelnuts shining through. On the mouth it initially has a focussed steely minerality, then a creamy lemon buttery backbone is adorned with fruit notes of crisp, juicy Granny Smith apples, lime zest, nectarines and just a hint of passionfruit.
Producer Information: Alkoomi Wines
The Alkoomi vineyards and winery are located in the Frankland River district of Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region and is one of Western Australia's largest family owned and operated wine producers. Frankland River pioneers, Merv and Judy Lange, established Alkoomi in 1971 and in 2010 handed the reins over to their daughter Sandy and her husband Rod Hallett.
Frankland River is inland and northerly, where cool nights and warm days with long sunlight hours provide a Mediterranean climate. Ironstone-based gravels and duplex sandy loams lie over clay sub-soils derived from granitic outcrops. These have weathered over time to create the undulating rolling hills that define the region.
James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion has given Alkoomi Wines a ‘Red 5 Star’ rating, a highly coveted recognition bestowed only on outstanding wineries which regularly produce wines of excellent quality.
