Description

The 2017 is a lovely success for the Domaine Michel Lafarge, one of the great estates of the Côte de Beaune. As usual, these are elegant and classically proportioned wines, cut from quite old-fashioned cloth. The suppleness and purity of fruit that characterize the vintage at its best are on evidence, and the domaine's lower appellations will drink well in their youth, but the emblematic wines will emphatically reward bottle age.

The 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots is very pretty, wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries, candied peel and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, satiny and succulent, with a juicy core of fruit, open-knit structure and a pure finish. (The Wine Advocate)

Producer Information: Domaine Michel Lafarge

In recent years, Michel Lafarge’s reds have become the most sought after in the Cotes de Beaune. He is a committed and studious man who appears to have arrived at a near perfect formula. Of his 8 hectares, only one is of 1er Cru standing, but their fruit combines delicious Pinot flavours with layers of firm mineral character and delicate vanilla from a short-ish oak ageing. There is consistent depth, complexity and perfect balance across the range.

The domaine is now run by Michel’s son Frederic. Frederic has a well earned reputation as a leading biodynamic viticulteur, keeping chickens in the Clos de Chateau des Ducs and reviving some ancient methods.
