Nose of medium intensity dominated by notes of citrus, stone fruits, melon, notes of jasmine, fennel, herbs and notes of sweetness in the background. Some pastries for the time it remains in contact with its lees and adds aromas of yeast, brioche and biscuit, which gives it great finesse and elegance.
good volume in the mouth. On the palate it has volume, a certain unctuousness, while fresh and light, with good acidity. Medium length with aniseed hints. At first it is sweet, fruity and of good maturity, with hints of apricot, melon and grapefruit with hints of honey, on a background of fennel bulb, hay and white flowers. Tasty, balanced and fresh mid palate, with a frank aftertaste finish and pleasantly bitter hints.
Producer Information: Bodegas Urbina
Bodegas Benito Urbina is a family-owned Single Estate winery situated in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, on the north-western edge of Rioja Alta. It is an area that produces wines with a great capacity for ageing, and is therefore excellent for the production of Reservas and Gran Reservas.
Urbina produced wine only with grapes from their own vineyards of over 75 hectares (65 of Tempranillo, and 10 of Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo and Viura). They use only organic fertilizers to maintain the richness and structure of the soil, which contributes to the fruit that characterizes Urbina wines. In the winery, native yeasts used that give the wine a distinct character and unique personality.
The family focuses mostly on red wine production, though white wine is also produced in small amounts. Close to 400000 bottles of the red (Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva) and about 50000 bottles of the Blanco and Rosado wines are produced here annually. Urbina are very particular about releasing wines only when they are ready to drink and fully mature - even their Crianzas are often released nearly a decade after vintage.
