Description
Always a wine with depth and power but this 2019 also shows wonderful precision with pure perfumed aromatics of violets and sappy cassis leaf, sweet cherry tobacco and hints of blackberry, fynbos and cedar spice. Deliciously cool and fresh, this wine shows a lovely acid frame on which there are opulent fruit layers of black currant, black cherry and black chocolate generously draped. An extremely elegant, classy fine wine. Drink from 2024 to 2040+. 96/100 Greg Sherwood MW

Producer Information: Boekenhoutskloof
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschoek. It is now one of the most celebrated of all South African wineries; voted winery of the year in 2012 by the influential South African journalist John Platter. The wineries recent fame dates from 1993 when new owners completely restored the vineyards and established new plantings.
As a producer, Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist, with its premium Boekenhoutskloof range selling out on release each vintage, and The Chocolate Block – a Syrah based blend – is probably the most successful new wine offering to come out of South Africa in the modern era. Marc Kent, with a commitment to the highest quality, runs the winery.
