The 2019 Shiraz is predominantly from Elgin and Stellenbosch fruit. The cool climate pepper spice notes are complemented by ripe red fruit aromas which follow through to the palate. Oak spice from judicious barrel aging adds complexity to a ripe plum, cherry and mulberry fruit core with silky, ripe tannins. The elegance, spice and freshness from Elgin combined with the Stellenbosch structure and intensity ensure that this wine will cellar exceptionally for 5 to 10 years.
Producer Information: Boschendal
Boschendal lies between the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains an hour’s drive from Cape Town. Boschendal is South Africa’s second oldest wine farm, dating back to 1685. However, as recently as five years ago, Boschendal was in a state of ruin employing fewer than 50 people. Five years later and with the help of committed investment, Boschendal is revitalizing and is proud to employ 550 people, planted 600 000 new fruit trees and commenced an ambitious regenerative agriculture project to restore their soil ecology. Winemakers at Boschendal take into account the tremendous natural heritage, producing classic wines based on tradition but with contemporary innovation. They have dedicated red, white and sparkling wine makers for focused expertise.
