Description
Michel Lafarge was one of the greatest winemakers in burgundy history. Unfortunately he passed away in 2020 at the ripe old age of 91. This Passetoutgrains comes from vineyards that he said he remembered help planting throught his life starting at age four. There is even one part of the vineyard that was planted the year he was born. Like the vineyard it is made up of half Gamey and half Pinot Noir. The Gamey give the wine depth and a bit of weight while the Pinot gives it elegance and complexity. A beautiful wine all the way around that can be paired with many dishes.
It is peppery with dark and red fruit and if finishes with a tart elegant finish.
Producer Information: Domaine Michel Lafarge
In recent years, Michel Lafarge’s reds have become the most sought after in the Cotes de Beaune. He is a committed and studious man who appears to have arrived at a near perfect formula. Of his 8 hectares, only one is of 1er Cru standing, but their fruit combines delicious Pinot flavours with layers of firm mineral character and delicate vanilla from a short-ish oak ageing. There is consistent depth, complexity and perfect balance across the range.
The domaine is now run by Michel’s son Frederic. Frederic has a well earned reputation as a leading biodynamic viticulteur, keeping chickens in the Clos de Chateau des Ducs and reviving some ancient methods.
