Bourgogne Passetoutgrains l'Exception Anthologie 2022 Michel Lafarge (Magnum)

Description

With such a restricted yield this is only bottled in magnums. Bunches are plucked only from the vines planted in 1928, the late Michel’s birth year. The result is almost as good as the man himself. Firm yet fair, strong yet gentle and it will send you home filled to the brim with a zest for life. Despite the 50:50 Pinot: Gamay blend the style is way more of Pinot Noir. Note that Fred, or rather his daughters, have decided not to produce Anthologie in 2023. 2024 to 2031

Producer Information: Domaine Michel Lafarge

In recent years, Michel Lafarge’s reds have become the most sought after in the Cotes de Beaune. He is a committed and studious man who appears to have arrived at a near perfect formula. Of his 8 hectares, only one is of 1er Cru standing, but their fruit combines delicious Pinot flavours with layers of firm mineral character and delicate vanilla from a short-ish oak ageing. There is consistent depth, complexity and perfect balance across the range.

The domaine is now run by Michel’s son Frederic. Frederic has a well earned reputation as a leading biodynamic viticulteur, keeping chickens in the Clos de Chateau des Ducs and reviving some ancient methods.
