Description

76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot.

This south-facing hillside terraced vineyard with its gray ashy volcanic sandy soils yields another big, bold expression with a suitably dark black opaque colour. But there is nothing broody about the wine’s aromatics that bursts out the glass with notes of gingerbread, saline black currant, melted tar, stewed black cherries, camphor and hints of graphite. The palate is focused and powerful with a big concentration of creamy black and blue berry fruits, very fine grained, stern mineral graphite tannins and an incredibly compact, precise yet generous mouthfeel. Lovely balance and seductive power. A real WOW! wine. 97/100 Greg Sherwood MW

Producer Information: Diamond Creek

In the 1960s, the late Al Brounstein bought a plot of land in the higher part of Napa Valley. A true Francophile and visionary, he became the first producer in Napa to work exclusively with Bordeaux’s signature grape variety. Cabernet Sauvignon. He also decided against blending all his grapes but to take advantage of the three distinct soil types on his property - volcanic, ferrous and gravelly - to produce different expressions of Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is one of the most thrilling, concentrated, long-lived expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.
