Back in 2014, James was with our friends at Chateau St Jacques d’Albas when he suggested we pool resources to make a quality pink. Light in colour, positive in flavour, uplifting and refreshing was the brief. They named this limited edition cuvee in honour of the 11th century chapel that overlooks the vineyard. As the sun sets, the fine stonework reflects an ethereal shade of soft pink that is echoed in this handcrafted and invigorating rosé.
In 2016 Jancis Robinson MW OBE added to her brief note, ‘I may even go and buy some myself this summer.’
And in 2017 the Guide Hachette gave 3 stars commenting, ‘This salmon-pink rosé sparkles! The nose explodes with strawberries, accompanied by a freshness of mint and menthol. A freshness which follows the nose onto the palate with length and body, together with an acidity which ensure a superb balance.’
Most recently in 2023 Matthew Jukes blogs, ‘La Chapelle en Rose does a stunning job of reminding drinkers that with sensitive farming and gentle handling in the winery, it is possible to make as exquisite wines from the western end of the Languedoc-Roussillon as it is from Provence in the east. Made from a blend of Grenache Mourvèdre and Syrah, this is a superb rosé with a heavenly, silky-smooth texture. I love the discreet mint and wild herb details that cut through the luxurious fruit bringing freshness and vitality to the whole. I have tasted hundreds of rosés so far this year, and this is right at the top of the tree with the very finest.’ MatthewJukes.com
