Description
Excitement for the 2018 vintage in Tuscany has been bubbling for some time now. Saffredi, always among the first Super-Tuscans to enter the market, has arrived bearing exceptionally good tidings. The 2018 shows a taut nose, with ripe black cherries, blackcurrants, and damson, is supported by enticing herbal notes of sage and rosemary in a manner characteristic of the vintage, and the long, brooding finish is flecked with black tea and dark chocolate. Firm, delectable tannins frame the picture and the freshness of this wine is something of a marvel alongside the intensity and complexity, suggesting that the 2018 Saffredi will heartily reward any collector strong-willed enough to cellar it for decades to come. 96+/100 Greg Sherwood MW
"A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It’s racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. Fascinating red.”
