Description
Saffredi was the first Super-Tuscan to be produced in the south of the region, guided at its inception by the architect of the movement, the great Dr. Giacomo Tachis. Produced from a single vineyard, the wine is driven by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and a dash of Petit Verdot. Hand-picked and macerated for 25 days before maturing for 18 months in French oak barriques, 20% new, Saffredi is consistently superb. Despite its comparably low price tag, critics repeatedly place Saffredi among the highest echelons of Italian wines, and 2019 is no different – Larner gives the 2019 97+/100 while James Suckling reaches 99/100 Points, both the second highest ever score for this wine.
